    • Do not power off the computer or disconnect the keyboard until the update process is complete.

    • Otherwise your keyboard can become unusable and required to reset manually.
  10. Click “Upgrade”.

  11. If an error message appears, you can either Click “Upgrade” once again, or exit the application and unplug your keyboard to make sure DIP switch #5 is OFF - then start again.
  12. If error messages appear after several tries:
    • Make sure your Truly Ergonomic keyboard is plugged into a USB 2.0 port; some USB 3.0 ports are not fully compatible when upgrading the firmware.
    • You can use another computer with a USB 2.0 port.
    • It may mean you did not followed all the steps properly or a problem occurred during an upgrade, which means that your keyboard is required to reset manually.
  13. The application is now searching for your keyboard.
    • It usually takes 5-10 seconds for the keyboard to be recognized.
    • If it takes more than 2 minutes, exit the application and start over.

Firmware Troubleshooting

If after upgrading the Firmware, the keyboard is not behaving as expected, please review the following considerations:

  • Unplug your Truly Ergonomic keyboard.
  • Wait 5 seconds.
  • Plug in your Truly Ergonomic keyboard directly into a working USB port; neither plug in via a USB Hub nor via a KVM switch, and do not use emulation software or Virtualbox.
  • Make sure the Truly Ergonomic keyboard is plug in and recognized by the Operating System.
  • Make sure you only have one Truly Ergonomic keyboard plug in.

  • Successfully upgraded your Model 227 with the Firmware for Model 227 (TrulyErgonomic_227_v###.hex)
    or
Successfully upgraded your Model 229 with the Firmware for Model 229 (TrulyErgonomic_229_v###.hex)
    or
Successfully upgraded your Model 207 with the Firmware for Model 207 (TrulyErgonomic_207_v###.hex)
    or
Successfully upgraded your Model 209 with the Firmware for Model 209 (TrulyErgonomic_209_v###.hex)

  • Setup DIP switches according to your requirements. For OS X: make sure DIP switch #1 is in the OFF position for models 227 and 229 (DIP #2 for models 207 and 209).

  • Setup the correct keyboard language/layout on your Operating System Keyboard Preferences (System Settings on OS X) according to your requirements, e.g. English (United States), English US QWERTY.

  • Make sure keyboard drivers, USB device drivers, and applications related to keyboards or USB devices, are setup according to your requirements.

  • Using OS X: Click Apple menu > System Preferences > Keyboard > Change Keyboard Type:
    • ANSI for English US
    • JIS for Japanese
    • ISO for all other languages

The keyboard sends the correct key codes corresponding to the printed letters/symbols equivalent to an English (United States) ANSI US QWERTY layout when all DIP switches are ON. Any variation on the above considerations modifies the keyboard layout.

If after upgrading the Firmware, the computer does not detect the keyboard, or the keyboard does not wake‑up after the computer wakes-up, please reboot your computer, and/or reinstall your keyboard, and/or visit the Troubleshooting section for more information.
